In chapter 8, Miss Maudie’s house burns down, it snows in Alabama for the first time in 50 or so years, Mrs. Radley dies, and a blanket is put on Scout outside during the fire.Change is a common theme that ties these events together, although I think there is even more. If change can work, it works because each event is drastic change.Another possible option is that many events mean characters have to persevere through a difficult time. If this is the case, it’s a good chapter to foreshadow the difficulty that other characters will struggle through later. Notice, the characters who do struggle later do not go through a trial in this chapter.
