What reasons are suggested by Horatio for the appearance of the late king’s ghost ?act 1 scene 1

In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Horatio doesn’t believe in the existence of the ghost until he sees it for himself.  Once he does, he says: In what particular thought to work I know not,But in the gross and scope of mine opinions,This bodes some strange eruption to our state.  (Act 1.1.67-69)In other words, Horatio doesn’t know what specific reason the ghost has for appearing, but in general the appearance suggests some violent disturbance in Denmark. This will be echoed in idea throughout the play, and in words by the now famous line:  Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
