What point was the author making about utopian society? I have my opinion, but how successful was she getting this point accross?

To me, the point that the author is trying to convey is that any attempt to make a utopian society comes at a price.  She is saying that the price of trying to create perfection is that you lose your humanity. As far as I am concerned, she is quite successful in getting this point across.  When you think about how shallow and superficial Jonas’s society is, it seems very unpleasant.  The way they talk to each other in such cliches with their apologies that they don’t mean, etc — it seems like they are robots.  The way they have to take pills to stop them from having sexual urges seems pretty drastic.  Then you get the releases…So to me, she is very effective in making her argument that attempts at perfection are incompatible with humanity.
