What is the role of "happiness" in Fahrenheit 451, Brave new World and 1984?

In all three of these dystopian novels, the main characters are looking for happiness.  They all have to go against the norms of their societies in order to pursue this happiness.In all three novels, the main characters want to be more of individuals.  They want to be something other than what their society tells them they must be.  Guy Montag wants to read books and think.  Winston Smith wants to be able to have his own thoughts and to have feelings for other people.  Bernard Marx wants to be able to have an actual relationship with a woman and he wants the right to be melancholy.So, in all of these novels, happiness is a goal for the main characters.  It is a goal that their society does not want them to attain.
