Advancing human medical knowledge and technology to the point where we can genetically modify babies even before birth raises a number of important and interesting questions. People of faith will have some very strong objections to this idea, as they believe life is sacred as is the processof life as determined by God, not science.  They don’t think we should fool with Mother Nature’s processes.  Ethically, they suggest that there could be abuse of such technology by parents who want a child to be an athlete, or a genius, or blond and blue eyed, and these concerns are valid. At the same time, we could genetically modify babies to be less susceptible to disease, to remove predispositions towards diabetes, cancer or to even remove the danger of birth defects or other inherited maladies.  And if we can do such good through GM, shouldn’t we?  Don’t we have a moral imperative to do so?Like anything else when it comes to scientific advances, there is almost unlimited potential with moral and ethical dilemmas attached.
