Some point to this event as changing the relationship between the Czar and his people, inevitably marking the end of any good will the latter held for the former.  A group of protesters, consisting of men, women, and children, marched in St. Petersburg.  Their primary motivation was to seek economic redress for their challenges.  They were not seeking to instigate much of conflict, given the presence of women and children in the crowd.  The crowd marched and encountered the armed forces of the Czar, and were met with fire from weapons.  Many died in the process and as news spread around the nation that the Czar’s army had mowed down unarmed men, women, and children, the perception was that the Czar held little in way of love for his people. The anti- establishment forces used Bloody Sunday as evidence that a change in government structure was needed and the Czar had to go.
