The dream sequence you refer to is very ironic as through it Mama manages the kind of reuniting that she perhaps feels society (and Dee) would demand when she sees Dee again. She wryly comments that this is not going to happen. A TV show of course is not enough to reconcile the differences between two people, which Mama realises, and goes on to demonstrate by her choice to give the quilts to Maggie and not Dee.
