Telemachus is of extremely noble parentage. His father is King of Ithaca. The men acting as suitors toward his mother should be working to court her by assisting her son at all costs. This is not at all what transpires. They mock him and refuse to help him get to the mainland that he might pursue finding out further information about his father. This is a societal flaw within Ithaca’s society because the people should respect and contribute to the family in power, not look for ways to destroy the family.  If it were a perfect situation, these men should have offered their water vessels, offered to escort him, and offered as men to help this teenager grow into a man who is pursuing an adult responsibility.
