Zinn presents a number of events in this chapter, which you can find for yourself.  I will talk about the way that the chapter talks about oppression.Mainly, the chapter is saying that the spirit of protest and democracy from the 1960s is being stifled.  The corporate powers are using the press to try to keep the public from participating in politics.  The government (even liberal presidents like Carter) is choosing only “insiders” to important positions. In these ways, the powerful are trying to keep the powerless from participating in the system.Zinn also talks about oppression by the US abroad.  He specifically cites the economic imperialism of companies using others’ resources.  Also, he talks about how the US military trained military officers from oppressive regimes in Latin America.
