Jackson was a very strong leader.  Few would question the bolstering he gave to the executive branch.  The Nullification Crisis would have tested the mettle of any leader and could have been fairly disastrous.  The emergence of sectionalism is something that had been percolating for some time, as the South felt distinctly different from the North.  The emergence of this crisis during Jackson’s Presidency was a challenge, indeed.  Jackson’s use the military through the Force Bill was to ensure that South Carolina could not secede was fairly convincing.  Although, he could not stop sectionalist feelings, Jackson did demonstrate the power of the federal over the state governments.  For this, he deserves an “A” because the federal government has to be able to work with the states, but not at its own cost.
